Our New Balance 1080 neutral runner has been our go-to running shoe ever since it replaced the 1064. With great cushioning, good arch support, and low weight, this shoe has been popular right from version 1 thru to this new update, version 3. Like the V2, the V3 features an 8mm heel-to-toe drop to keep this shoe more minimalist, helping you run with a more natural gait (without making it feel like you're walking up a hill). This shoe continues its weight loss, coming down to 10.15 from its previous 10.5 oz. As clichéd as it sounds, it does feel like you’re not even wearing shoes.
The big question a lot of people will ask about this shoe is the change to the PL-1 shoe last. Natural PL-1, a slight revision in the PL-1 last, makes the shoe feel like it has the exact same amount of room at every point it touches your foot. Where the 1080v2 was close (but not tight) at the outside of the forefoot, the V3 feels like it “expects” your foot to be bigger there, and runs a bit wider. The arch support feels more natural, and the toebox has a bit more space. Overall, these shoes feel like they’ve got enough room to fit an orthotic, but snug enough all over that runners who like to wear trainers to a marathon will find them secure. Bottom line, we love the fit and feel of this shoe.
